More simulators for India: CAE and InterGlobe open a Mumbai training centre
Every airline pilot spends hundreds of hours in full-flight simulators (FFS): for type ratings, recurrent training and proficiency checks. India has long been short of simulator slots, and 2026 brought more capacity.
CAE and InterGlobe in Mumbai
In April 2026, CAE Simulation Training Private Limited (CSTPL), a joint venture between InterGlobe Enterprises and CAE, opened its fourth Indian centre in Mumbai, after Greater Noida, Gurugram and Bengaluru.
- 44,000 sq ft facility
- Opens with one Airbus A320 FFS, a second due later in 2026, room for six
- Offers type ratings, recurrent training and checks for Airbus, ATR and Boeing aircraft
- CSTPL's Indian network reaches 16 FFS, with plans for 23
CAE's Aviation Talent Forecast estimates India will need about 22,000 new pilots by 2034.
Others are expanding too
- Simaero, a global pilot training group, received its first Airbus A320neo FFS at its new Delhi centre in February 2026. The facility can hold up to eight simulators, subject to DGCA qualification.
- The Air India–Airbus training centre in Gurugram opened in September 2025 with two A320neo simulators, with two more planned.
Why this matters to new pilots
After your CPL, the next step is usually a type rating, most often on the A320 or Boeing 737. More simulators in India mean shorter waiting times and less need to travel abroad for this stage. Airline selection itself often includes a simulator assessment, where good instrument scan, clear radio calls and calm decision-making count.
A strong DGCA foundation in navigation, instruments and regulations makes simulator training far easier. You will meet the same concepts again at full speed.
