Andhra Pradesh opens its first flight training organisation in Kurnool

Charlie Foxtrot Editorial Team Published 2 min read

Andhra Pradesh has an ambitious aviation agenda, and pilot training is now part of it.

The opening

In late September 2026, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu inaugurated Orient Flights Aviation Academy in Kurnool, described as the state's first Flight Training Organisation. He called it a "historic moment" for Andhra Pradesh. State ministers B.C. Janardhan Reddy and T.G. Bharath and Kurnool MP Bastipati Nagaraju attended.

More schools planned

The minister said five more FTOs are planned in Kurnool, Rajahmundry and Kadapa. He also outlined a broader aviation plan for Rayalaseema:

  • Orvakal as a planned drone city
  • Puttaparthi for combat aircraft development
  • Kurnool and Kadapa for pilot training
  • Kuppam for trainer aircraft manufacturing

Why regional flying schools help

Southern India's clear-weather months and less congested airspace suit flight training. More schools in more states mean shorter waiting lists, more flying days and lower living costs for students who would otherwise travel far or train abroad.

Before you enrol at any new school

New FTOs take time to build fleets and instructor teams. Ask about the number of serviceable aircraft, instructors, expected completion time and the school's DGCA approval scope. And arrive with your DGCA papers done, so every day at the airfield is a flying day.

Charlie Foxtrot Aviation Academy was itself inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh minister Shri Nara Lokesh in February 2026. We follow the state's aviation growth closely, and our live online batches are open to students across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
